"Broken Walls and Carry the Cure have made a huge impact in the villages…over the last few days."

All along the Iditarod Trail in Alaska are villages and towns in great need of hope. In so many of these remote areas, alcoholism, drugs and depression have gained a foothold among the Native people—especially the youth, where the tragedy of suicide has almost become rampant.

With a heart to see the healing and freedom that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings for these people, First Nations worship band Broken Walls, together with Carry the Cure, set out to travel the length of the Iditarod; stopping at schools and churches for concerts, sharing and prayer.

Broken Walls is made up of Jonathan Maracle on vocals, flute and guitar; Kris Delorenzi on bass and background vocals; Bill Pagaran on drums and background vocals.

Bill Pagaran is also president of Carry the Cure, a non-profit ministry founded in 1996 in response to Western Alaska's outcry against the epidemic of suicide among Native Teens.

A statement on the ministry website reads:
Just as dedicated mushers drove their dog teams across nearly 1000 miles of arctic terrain to carry the cure for diptheria to the afflicted Eskimos in rural Western Alaska in 1925, a new group of Alaskans are today forging ahead to carry a new cure to rural Alaska—the cure for teen suicide. This new generation of Alaskans, which is now under the direction of Bill Pagaran, is called Carry The Cure (CTC). This dedicated team of youth and adults travels throughout Alaska to provide a message of hope through school rallies, mentorship, and education.
