From Historical Revival to Reality TVByFaith is called "A Journey of Discipleship," because each episode has a Biblical theme, but Paul and Mathew did not write any scripts beforehand. In every episode they had to put their faith into action, and learn from their experiences. When one mentions reality TV, bug eating celebrities, bungee jumping teenagers or pop star wannabes often come to mind. In an ironic twist, two British brothers are using reality TV to encourage vision for revival, missions and Christian discipleship. ByFaith TV—A Journey of Discipleship is a twelve episode reality TV series filmed and presented by two evangelical brothers. It documents the missions of Paul (28) and Mathew Backholer (31) around Europe, North Africa and Asia.
"Each episode has a Biblical theme," says Paul, "In Great Britain the theme is revival." ByFaith—episode two—starts in London, as the brothers recall the martyrdom of William Tyndale, the first popular English Bible translator. In Wales, they visit the chapel where the Welsh Revival (1904-05) broke out and consider the revivalist Evan Roberts. In 1989, Paul and Mathew's dad, Michael Backholer, saw a vision of flames of revival leaping from Scotland southwards into England; in Scotland the "Flames of Revival" vision is recreated on screen and shared with the viewer. Throughout the series, the two share their zeal for evangelism, although they do not preach. In Asia, they noted that the local leaders (whom they worked with) have spent their whole lives reaching out to the lost. "Throughout the Asian episodes" said Mathew "We include the testimonies of the local pastors, who have spent their whole lives planting churches and sowing the seed of the gospel." ByFaith is called "A Journey of Discipleship," because each episode has a Biblical theme, but Paul and Mathew did not write any scripts beforehand. In every episode they had to put their faith into action, and learn from their experiences. To view a trailer of an episode, CLICK HERE, or on the link below. The brothers believe that this series is not a call to Christian ministry, but rather discipleship. "Not everyone is called to be a preacher or missionary, but everyone is called to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and when we surrender our lives to Him, we all begin our journey of discipleship" said Paul. The twelve themes for the episodes include revival, giving thanks and the challenge of world mission. In every episode, there's a lesson to be learned, an adventure to be had, and another step on the "Journey of Discipleship." ByFaith TV is now airing on Christian TV around the world and is also available on DVD in North America / worldwide. To find out more visit the link below.
