It's Not Okay to Disparage the Dead, But it's Okay to Curse the Name of Jesus? The Double Standards President Trump Continually Exposes

Teresa Neumann-Opinion : Mar 21, 2019  Breaking Christian News

I would never put John McCain in the same category, but to claim we can't ever negatively evoke the memory of the dead would mean anyone who bad-mouths the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Ted Bundy, Charles Manson—the list goes on—should likewise be condemned. Ridiculous.

President Trump continues to defy political correctness and, in the process, expose double standards deeply entrenched in our current society. His recent criticism of the late Senator John McCain is a perfect case in point. (Image: John McCain/Pixabay)

"How dare he disparage the dead?" reporters and pundits ask. "Especially a war hero!"

Donna Brazil, on Fox News last night, proudly stated that her parents had taught her never to talk ill of the departed and then quoted an obscure Scripture to support the virtue. While I was taught not to speak ill of anyone in public, neither dead nor alive, I'm afraid using that argument to condemn the president is simply a political ploy and an empty one at that.

Disparage the dead? Let's see—um, Jesus (God with us, and the greatest being to ever walk the planet) was crucified 2,000 years ago, and yet His name is cursed and taken in vain millions of time each day, no doubt by some of these same critics.

I would never put John McCain in the same category, but to claim we can't ever negatively evoke the memory of the dead would mean anyone who bad-mouths the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Ted Bundy, Charles Manson—the list goes on—should likewise be condemned. Ridiculous. And why did no one in the media express outrage when horrid comments were made about Billy Graham or George H. W. Bush following their deaths? In fact, when missionary John Allen Chau was killed by a tribe on North Sentinel Island last year, the media assault on his character was relentless. Let's not forget that large segments of the population rejoiced when Abraham Lincoln (who won the electoral college to be president, by the way) was assassinated. He may have been one of our greatest presidents, but Democrats loathed him.

Being in the military has never stopped the media—or a president—from ripping apart veterans in the past. According to Wikipedia "liberals hated" famed WWII General George Patton. They also openly despised General Douglas MacArthur. And who can forget how Oliver North was (and is) treated in the press.

As for presidents openly criticizing military and political leaders? This NPS government website lists President Dwight D. Eisenhower's "Top 5 Most Disliked Contemporaries." They include: General Douglas MacArthur, Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, President Harry Truman, President John F. Kennedy, Senator Joseph McCarthy. A special derogatory mention is given to President Lyndon Johnson. (Image: Teresa Neumann-BCN reporter/author)

Yes, John McCain deserves to be honored for the veteran he was. I salute and honor all of our veterans for their invaluable sacrifices to our country. But he was also human ... and a politician. And as a politician, particularly, his words and actions are open game for debate and criticism, as much after his death as before.

Outrage, it seems, is simply selective these days. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
