BREAKING: Trump Administration Ends Rule Requiring Nuns to Fund Contraception"No American should be forced to choose between the dictates of the federal government and the tenants of their faith." -President Donald Trump (Washington, DC) — [LifeSiteNews.com] The Trump administration issued an order today ending the federal requirement that employers violate their consciences to participate in the provision of employees' contraceptives and abortifacient drugs. "The United States has a long history of providing conscience protections in the regulation of health care for entities and individuals with objections based on religious beliefs or moral convictions," the new rules state. "These rules do not alter multiple other Federal programs that provide free or subsidized contraceptives for women at risk of unintended pregnancy." The Supreme Court offered relief from the burdensome mandate to Hobby Lobby and other for-profit corporations in its 5-4 ruling in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. President Trump promised to end the coercive mandate during his campaign. He signed a religious liberty executive order in May 2017 that seemed to begin this process, although some social conservatives blasted it for being "woefully inadequate" and much weaker than an initial leaked version.
