Netanyahu's UN Speech: Warns Iran's Leadership, But Gives Message of Hope to Iranian People"One day, my Iranian friends, you will be free from the evil regime that terrorizes you. When your day of liberation finally comes, the friendship between our two ancient peoples will surely flourish once again." -Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressing the U.N. as Israel's envoy to the U.N. Danny Danon presides over the General Assembly. "Imagine the danger of hundreds of nuclear weapons in the hands of a vast Islamist empire with the missiles to deliver them anywhere in the world," Netanyahu told the world body. In particular, Netanyahu blasted the so-called sunset clause, which lifts all limitations on Iran's nuclear program after 2025. "When that sunset comes, a dark shadow will be cast over the entire Middle East and the world," he said. Drawing on President Donald Trump's muscular speech earlier in the day, which directly confronted Iran and North Korea's destabilizing actions, Netanyahu said the Islamic Republic could become the next North Korea if the nuclear deal isn't "fixed or nixed." "There are those who still defend the dangerous [Iranian nuclear] deal, arguing that it will block Iran's path to the bomb. That's exactly what they said about the nuclear deal with North Korea, and we all know how that turned out. If nothing changes, this deal with turn out exactly the same way," Netanyahu warned. The Israeli leader directly challenged Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, saying the "light of Israel will never be extinguished." Netanyahu also addressed the Iranian people directly, speaking in Farsi that "you are not our enemy, you are our friends." "One day, my Iranian friends, you will be free from the evil regime that terrorizes you," added Netanyahu. "When your day of liberation finally comes, the friendship between our two ancient peoples will surely flourish once again." Additionally, Netanyahu also touched upon Israel growing global partnerships, its "deep relationship" with the United States, anti-Israel bias at the U.N. as well as the Jewish state's accomplishments in technology, medicine and agriculture. "The remarkable alliance between the U.S. and Israel has never been stronger or deeper," he said. "Israel is deeply grateful for the support of the Trump administration, the U.S. Congress and the American people."
