Meet the 77-Year-Old Grandma Who Got the Supreme Court to Uphold Pro-Life Free Speech"I go where the Holy Spirit leads me. It's America, and I should be able to walk and talk gently, lovingly, anywhere [and] with anybody."
In January of this year, NPR spoke with 77-year-old Eleanor McCullen who was standing outside of the Supreme Court with other pro-life activists from Bound4Life, praying for the end of abortion in the US. McCullen's succinct response to the accusation that being in an abortion facilities buffer zone interferes with a woman's "mission [to abort] and is a violation of her First Amendment rights, embodied the truth—a truth that the Supreme Court agreed on as well. (Note: McMullen is the woman who was the lead plaintiff represented by Alliance Defending Freedom in the case McMullen v. Coakley referenced above.) "I go where the Holy Spirit leads me," McMullen told reporter Nina Totenberg. "It's America, and I should be able to walk and talk gently, lovingly, anywhere [and] with anybody." A statement by Bound4Life read: "We are thankful that our right to free speech, specifically outside abortion centers, has been upheld by the highest court in our land. Please continue to pray with us for our sidewalk counselors like Eleanor McCullen, for strength in their work and wisdom as they lovingly speak truth to those in difficult circumstances."
