Indeed, in WWII, Nazi S.S. Chief Heinrich Himmler reportedly visited Spain because he believed the grail was at the Montserrat Abbey near Barcelona.

Now, two Spanish historians, Margarita Torres and José Ortega del Río, believe they have discovered what Hitler couldn't; the Holy Grail hiding in an obscure museum in Spain where it has been gathering dust since the 11th century when it last belonged to Queen Urraca.

The chalice is said to be made from onyx. One could imagine Jesus drinking from such a simple cup.

But, due, no doubt, to the fact that our medieval ancestors had a thing for pomp and ceremony—believing God was deserving of the best of everything—the chalice was subsequently encrusted in gold and precious jewels. Of course, according to a report in the New York Post, scientists admit the first 400 years of the cup's history are a mystery and they can't prove the chalice ever touched Christ's lips. Still, they claim this IS the chalice early Christians revered as such.

Referring to ancient Egyptian documents that mentioned "the chalice of Christ" being given by Christians in Egypt to King Fernando I in Spain in return for help he gave to Egyptians suffering a famine, the historians said, "This is a very important discovery because it helps solve a big puzzle...the only chalice that could be considered the chalice of Christ is that which made the journey to Cairo and then from Cairo to León."

As with most popular topics in modern culture today, Christians may easily dismiss such news as being ridiculous, irreverent and/or irrelevant, but countless people who don't know Christ are fascinated by such developments. Start a conversation about the discovery of the grail with such a person, and I can almost guarantee a discussion will ensue that opens a door to the Gospel.

It might be worth a try.
