What do you do when the couple for whom you're providing a surrogate pregnancy changes their mind and demands that you have an abortion?
That nightmare became reality for Crystal Kelley, who had agreed to carry a couple's child in utero for them, turning it over to them after birth. (Photo: CNN)

However, when the parents found that the child in Crystal's womb had serious problems—cleft palate, heart defects, and a cyst on its brain—they told her to terminate the pregnancy because they no longer wanted the baby.

Crystal, already 21 weeks pregnant, refused.

The parents tried to bribe the girl with 10,000 if she would just end the child's life; still Crystal—who really did need the money—said no.
The couple tried further tactics, such as hiring a lawyer to "intimidate" Crystal.

According to the CNN report, the lawyer told Crystal she "was in breach of contract . . . and if she did not abort, the parents would sue her to get back the fees they'd already paid her—around $8,000—plus all of the medical expenses and legal fees."

A Charisma News report noted, when "Baby S" (name withheld for privacy) was born, she did indeed have multiple serious disabilities. However, thanks to the unselfish courage of her surrogate mother who carried her to term, she was given life, and adopted after birth by a loving family.
