The deal expands the US military's role in Greenland, paving the way for two new military bases and Trump's "Golden Dome" missile defense system, while reaffirming Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders' right to self-determination.

Greenland's parliament voted Tuesday to ratify its security agreement with the United States, clearing a major hurdle for an expanded US military presence on the strategic Arctic island.
From The Daily Signal:
Greenland's parliament on Tuesday ratified the Arctic island's security agreement struck earlier this year with US President Donald Trump, although some opposition party members questioned the deal's economic value.
The United States, Denmark and Greenland in September signed the agreement, aimed at ending tensions after Trump's repeated threats to take control of the strategically located and mineral-rich island, a self-governing Danish territory.

The ratification closes a turbulent chapter. In early January, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers the President wanted to buy Greenland rather than invade it, and days later President Trump floated tariffs to pressure Greenland and allies that opposed his plans. The President backed off those tariffs after announcing a "framework" for a future deal with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos. That framework became the agreement signed in September.
Tuesday's vote passed 16-0, with seven lawmakers abstaining. Greenlandic Foreign Minister Mute Egede called ratification an important step, telling lawmakers in Nuuk that peace and stability can no longer be taken for granted. Not everyone was satisfied. Pele Broberg, chair of the pro-independence Naleraq party, argued that Greenland had gained no economic benefit from the deal and said his party wants a better agreement for when Greenland becomes an independent state.
The agreement now moves to Copenhagen. The Danish parliament is scheduled to give the bill a first reading on November 11, with a second reading and final vote on November 19. Because it is an executive agreement, it will take effect once Denmark and Greenland ratify it, without needing approval from the US Senate.
Egede is right that peace cannot be taken for granted, and Scripture reminds us where true security comes from: "...Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." (Psalm 127:1). Let's pray for Danish lawmakers as they take up this agreement, that they would act swiftly and wisely. Let's pray that these new bases and the Golden Dome system would strengthen America's defenses and keep China and Russia from gaining a foothold in the Arctic. Let's pray for the people of Greenland, that this partnership would bring them real stability and blessing, and that the Lord would bring spiritual renewal to an island where many churches have grown cold. Above all, let's pray that America's leaders would trust the Lord, not military might alone, as the ultimate guardian of our nation. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
