Ms. Liu, who lives in Oakland, California, delivered a flawless performance in the free skate, looking relaxed and happy. Her nerves were clearly not an issue as she skated flawlessly on the ice, becoming America's first United States medalist in the event since Sasha Cohen, and the first gold medalist since Sarah Hughes.
