"Civil dialogue is a critical part of the university experience, and peaceful engagement is fundamental to learning itself. Although he has been put on paid, administrative leave, he should be required to apologize to the College Republicans and then be fired from the University of Eau Claire." -Provost Michael Carney

The university's College Republicans chapter had set up a table displaying a number of political materials on Election Day.

Television station WQOW identified the professor as José Felipe Alvergue. He also serves as chair of the English department.

Tatiana Bobrowicz, who chairs the chapter, told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel she had just finished setting up the table outside the student center when the professor went full-blown bonkers.

"This takes it to a whole new level," Bobrowicz said. "Not just a professor, but a chair of a department. He's supposed to set an example for students and here he is setting an example of violence."

She said a number of students actually applauded the professor's behavior.

"It's scary to see how much hatred there is toward us," she told the newspaper.

Fred Kappus, the chairman of the Republican Party of Eau Claire County said he was appalled by the attack.

"He accosted the U.W. Eau Claire College Republicans who were peacefully displaying Brad Schimel campaign materials on a table," Kappus said. "Alvergue then overturned their table, strewing the materials on the ground. His behavior was not only a disgrace to himself but to the University and sets a very poor example for U.W.E.C. students."

The university's interim provost said in a statement that the professor has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

"I am deeply concerned that our students' peaceful effort to share information on campus on election day was disrupted," Provost Michael Carney told the television station. "UW-Eau Claire strongly supports every person's right to free speech and free expression, and the university remains committed to ensuring that campus is a place where a wide variety of opinions and beliefs can be shared and celebrated."

Kudos to the university for taking immediate action to stop this unhinged and downright dangerous professor.

"Civil dialogue is a critical part of the university experience, and peaceful engagement is fundamental to learning itself," Carney said.

Many Republicans are now calling for the professor to be fired.

"Although he has been put on paid, administrative leave, he should be required to apologize to the College Republicans and then be fired from the University of Eau Claire," Kappus told the television station in a statement. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
