This stern warning follows a dangerous confrontation on Monday, where US Border Patrol agents engaged in a firefight with suspected cartel gunmen along the volatile US-Mexico border.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) agents and US Border Patrol members faced a barrage of gunfire from suspected drug cartel operatives near Fronton, Texas on Monday.

The agents, finding themselves under heavy fire, were forced to return gunfire and take shelter in dense brush lining the river's edge.
