The gun[man] shot six people, killing one person and critically injuring others.

"We believe a group of churchgoers detained him and hogtied his legs with an extension cord and confiscated at least two weapons from him," Orange County Undersheriff Jeff Hallock said. "He was detained when deputies arrived."

About 30 to 40 members of the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church were inside the Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods when a 60-year-old man walked inside and began firing a gun.

"That group of churchgoers displayed what we believe is exception heroism and bravery in intervening to stop the suspect. They undoubtedly prevented additional injuries and fatalities," the undersheriff said.

Authorities say the gunman, who was described as Asian-American, could be facing hate crime charges.

"I think it's safe to say, had people not intervened, it could've been a lot worse," Hallock said. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
