Republican Winsome Sears, a native of Jamaica, was elected lieutenant governor of the Commonwealth on Tuesday night.
She is a Marine veteran who previously directed a Salvation Army homeless shelter.
Sears served as the national chairperson for the Black Americans to Re-Elect President Trump, a position she touted on the campaign trail. She defeated five other Republican candidates to win the party's nomination for lieutenant governor.
Sears, made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to the House in 2002 after she ousted the 20-year Democratic incumbent of Virginia's 90th District, William Robinson. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
