[ToddStarnes.com] It's been 30 years since Jessie Hamilton cooked meals for a Louisiana State University fraternity, but her impact was so great that a group of alumni decided to pay her back with a tear-filled surprise. (Screengrab image)

About a dozen alumni of Phi Gamma Delta, better known as Fiji, and their families surprised Hamilton and her family with a fully catered lunch to celebrate her 74th birthday, The Advocate of Baton Rouge reported.

"We love you and we respect you, and we know what you've been through," LSU alumnus, Andrew Fusaiotti, told her. "When you told me a year ago that you were still working two jobs, cleaning and cooking at age 73, we had to do something about that."

After singing happy birthday to her, the alumni presented her with a check for more than $50,000 to pay off her mortgage.

More than 90 fraternity brothers helped raise the money and those present wore t-shirts proclaiming "Jessie Hamilton Day."

She was left speechless and many tears were shed out of gratitude.

Hamilton started cleaning houses with her mom at 14 years old in 1961 and worked for the frat house for 14 years.

"This has been a blessing to me," Hamilton told the newspaper. "I have been worrying about how I was going to pay my house off. I am grateful for what God has done and has led them to do for me." Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
