The coronavirus was no match for 99-year-old Joy Andrew. She caught the contagious disease at the Minister Grange care facility in May, according to Yahoo News UK. Her health quickly got worse so she was placed on hospice care.

Miraculously Defeats COVID-19

Her daughter Michele visited her to say her final goodbye. However, during the next few weeks, Joy fought and managed to "miraculously defeat" COVID-19. And finally, she was allowed to leave the care facility.

"My mum has always been a very feisty woman," Michele told Yahoo News. "She takes things in her stride like a lot of people from her generation who lived through the war tend to do. She carries those characteristics with her to this day and I think it is those which saw her through the last few months. She certainly wasn't going to let coronavirus defeat her."

Although they call Joy's recovery from coronavirus a miracle, Michele explained that her mother's dementia prevented her from acknowledging that success. However, the family is celebrating the miracle.

Holocaust, Plane Crash And Cancer

Joy Andrew was born and raised in North London. She joined the "Women's Auxiliary Air Force and served in the Operations' Room at Bomber Command of the Royal Air Force." She eventually became a sergeant.

Her Jewish heritage eventually endangered her life. Some time ago, after the war, a former Nazi driver "deliberately wrecked the car in order to kill her mother."

Joy was also one of the first airline flight attendants in aviation history. She joined the British Overseas Airways Corporation after her stint in the Royal Air Force. And there she almost died when she was involved in a plane crashed.

In the 1950s, Joy married her husband David Andrew, and adopted Michele in 1963.

Michele revealed that during the 1970s, her mother faced and defeated breast cancer as well.

Joy will be turning 100 in November and the family is planning to have a big celebration for her.
