"God is so good... beauty is going to rise from our personal tragedy."
(Luoyang, China)—According to a report by the Christian Post, award-winning singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth have recently opened a "healing home" for orphans in China who have special needs.
The building, located in Luoyang, China, is six stories high, and 60,000 square feet. Forty children have already been moved in, with room for 90 more. Called "Maria's Big House"—in honor of the Chapman's adopted daughter who was tragically killed last year—the facility is slated to staff 190 nurses and nannies, with 128 beds available. The day after the grand opening, Mary Beth told reporters, "We really felt the spirit of God there, as we stood in front of Maria's Big House and dedicated it back to Him and in honor of Maria, who was a special needs orphan herself."
The opening of the facility caught the attention of several media outlets in China, causing it to receive a good deal of coverage, including stories on China's evening news, the Chapmans said.
"God is so good. I can't even tell you how wonderful it has been. Definitely bittersweet at times, but beauty is going to rise from our personal tragedy," remarked Mary Beth Chapman.
