It's the story "of a man who God blessed with family, friends and supporters so that he might carry on his calling."
(Woodburn, Oregon)—On December 12, 2008, a bomb exploded at the West Coast Bank, killing two policemen and seriously injuring Woodburn Police Chief Scott Russell. The explosion shattered Russell's jaw and caused him to lose his right leg. The tragedy shocked and saddened the residents of the Willamette Valley town. (Photo by: Timothy J. This week, a year and a half later, Scott Russell made news again when he spoke for the first time since the explosion to reporters in a conference room at the police department. As reported in The Statesman Journal, he talked about "the story of a man who God blessed with family, friends and supporters so that he might carry on his calling."
He also reportedly thanked the Woodburn and surrounding communities for their support and prayers.
Though he has no memory of the blast he was quoted as saying he has a Salem-area father and son charged in the bank bombing.
"Forgiveness is part of my faith," said Russell.
