They prayed together, asking the Lord for healing, and she experienced something like a "cleansing surge."
Five years after the tsunami wiped out 167,000 lives on the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, there has been another kind of flood—one of miracles and healings spreading throughout the underground Church. Some of these reports are included in an inspiring article in Charisma, written by Julian Lukins.
Aceh province is dominated mostly by Muslims, however, the Spirit of God is moving; made evident by some of the remarkable testimonies arising from Christians who attend "unregistered" churches in the area.
One pastor (name withheld for security reasons) began a Pentecostal fellowship four years ago with only six members. According to the Charisma report, there are now "90 people from the neighborhood [who] make up the Spirit-filled congregation."
One church member shared of how God healed her. She had reportedly grown up Buddhist, and had begun to experience a feeling of something crawling underneath her skin. Over time, she sought help from witch doctors, traditional healers and Buddhist idols—finally moving to another area in desperation. But nothing would stop the attacks which only grew worse.
Finally, her sister, who had become a Christian, pointed her toward the Lord. "My sister told me that I should go to the Highest Power for healing—that is, Jesus," the woman told Charisma. "I thought: 'If Jesus can heal me, I will follow Him forever.'"
They prayed together, asking the Lord for healing, and she experienced something like a "cleansing surge." She says she started feeling the crawling again a few days later but she "cried out to Jesus," and has never had a problem with it since.
Another woman (name also withheld), who'd been raised in a devout Muslim home, had been seeking answers about God. After viewing The Jesus Film, her curiosity was piqued, "I wanted to know more about this Jesus," she said.
Not long before the tsunami struck in 2004, she was in her home when suddenly a man in a white robe appeared to her saying, "Do not be afraid." Then he was gone.
Days later, the tsunami hit, and the woman was one of those caught up in the enormous wave. She couldn't swim and cried out, "Jesus, save me!" She reportedly found herself somehow above the water and "scrambled to safety." One of the few survivors that day, the woman gave her heart to Jesus and became a part of the underground Church. She says, "Now I know the Truth, and the Truth has set me free."
