[Jesus said] "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." -John 17:20-23
The second annual One Prayer movement kicked off this weekend, with over 1,700 churches participating, which—according to the Christian Post article—represented "nearly a million Believers."
The idea originated with Craig Groeschel, of LifeChurch.tv, who desired to see Jesus' prayer in the Gospel of John chapter 17 realized by His Church.
One Prayer consists of churches "across the globe" joining together for "four weeks of prayer, fasting, sharing sermons and changing lives."
Pastor Francis Chan of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, CA, began the One Prayer series of messages by speaking—via LifeChurch.tv—about how "God is strong."
Chan asked how many would describe Believers as being "powerful," and yet "we have this all powerful, amazing, strong God," he said. "And because we don't focus on Him enough, I see ...churches filled with people who are scared ...and weak."
Chan noted that Believers "need to remember Who we worship."
One Prayer not only brings Believers together in prayer from all around the world, but last year the movement assisted in over 600 church-plants in places like Cambodia, southern India, Sudan and China. There are also reportedly more than 7,000 people who have been baptized, and over 44,000 in Bible studies right now.
