"Change will come as the church becomes the spiritual and social conscience of the Bahamian society with every member standing guard to uphold Christian practices and preserve Christian values as outlined in the Holy Scriptures and in the preamble of the Bahamian Constitution."
(The Bahamas)—"The Government should work closer with the church and encourage more Bahamian businessmen to work together and fuel industry in The Bahamas," Rev. Patrick Paul, president of the Bahamas Christian Council, announced recently. "The strengthening of The Bahamas and the true success of our Government, any Government, is to be found in working together with the Christian church."
Rev. Paul was quoted as saying unity and loyalty in the church combined with industry from the Government can bring about transformation in the Bahamas, adding that he believes the Church is called by God to come together for the spiritual and social welfare of all society. Saying it is not an "insurmountable matter," he specified unity and change must begin with spiritual leaders first.
"As spiritual leaders put away individual uniqueness and eccentricities and work together for the common good for all Bahamians, change will come," he said. "Change will come as the church becomes the spiritual and social conscience of the Bahamian society with every member standing guard to uphold Christian practices and preserve Christian values as outlined in the Holy Scriptures and in the preamble of the Bahamian Constitution."
"We now live in a multicultural society which has brought many philosophies and ideologies to bear on the social fiber of our society, and our country is in a colossal fight for its life," he said. "These Christian practices and values are powerful and can change any group of people. I therefore call upon all Christians everywhere to be apart of the Bahamas Christian Council's national initiatives and to be apart of changing our Bahamian society and preserving our Bahamian Christian heritage."
