"…it's just what he would do… he was always helping everybody."
(Littleton, CO)—Jim Lewin, a retired firefighter and a hero once again, this time rescued his 12-day-old granddaughter when a pickup truck came "barreling" toward them. The quick-thinking grandfather pushed the stroller away before he was struck himself.
Suzanne Miller—the baby's mother, Jim's daughter—explained how it happened. "We were leaving the Festival of Lights… my dad was ahead of us, pushing the stroller and he was crossing the street. My husband and my son were behind him at the corner, and my husband bent down to talk to my son when he heard a truck coming around the corner—speeding up. As he looked up, he saw it hit my dad, and saw that the stroller hadn't been hit."
Upon checking the baby, Miller's husband found that she was fine, but the rubber on the stroller's handle was completely torn off from the force of Jim pushing it to make sure it was out of the path of the truck.
Carol Lewin, Jim's wife, is not surprised by his actions, she told FOX News, "it's just what he would do… he was always helping everybody." Jim Lewin is currently in critical condition and heavily sedated in the hospital. Doctors say he most likely won't remember the accident when he awakes.
When asked about the driver of the pickup, Carol added, "My message that I wanted to get out is about God and His healing. I don't hate the man [who was driving the car], I don't even want to talk about him."
The driver was charged with reckless driving, according to FOX News. To watch the video report, use the link provided.
