"…officials are expecting "20 million pounds of mail to be sent to US troops this holiday season."
As the holidays draw near, our thoughts turn to family. Those who have family members and friends serving in the US Armed Forces overseas may want to send a care package.
With that in mind, the US Postal Service has announced some guidelines for getting packages to the troops in time for Christmas or Hanukkah. (Photo: www.OperationCarePackages.org)
Al DeSarro, spokesman for the USPS notes that all packages should be mailed no later than Dec. 4th, if they are going to troops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
DeSarro added some other helpful advice on preparing packages. "We also offer a special military package kit," he said, "and this applies even if you want to send to our troops here in the U.S. If you call 1-800-610-8734, they'll send you a free kit of packaging materials; priority mail boxes, tape, labels and stuff that can make your holiday packing much easier."
DeSarro urges people to mail as early as possible, as officials are expecting "20 million pounds of mail to be sent to US troops this holiday season."
