"Our Common Law system drew heavily from the Ten Commandments and Christianity has had a profound impact on shaping our laws, system of Parliamentary democracy, and culture."
(Australia)—Responding to a representative's request to debate and replace a long-standing tradition in parliament, Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) Director Jim Wallace says that in campaigns leading up to the 2007 elections, both of Australia's political parties committed to retaining the Lord's Prayer in Parliamentary proceedings. Said Wallace: "The relevance of Christian faith is that it reaches across Aboriginal and mainstream Australian culture. It is inclusive of them. Our Common Law system drew heavily from the Ten Commandments and Christianity has had a profound impact on shaping our laws, system of Parliamentary democracy, and culture. It is appropriate that we open Parliaments with the Lord's Prayer for its cultural and historic relevance."
"We look forward to the Government honouring its election commitment," concluded Wallace.
