"The hand of Jesus was over us."
(Pretoria, South Africa)?Braam Swanepoel thinks seeds of the Gospel may have been planted in the hearts of hijackers who took his bakkie (small pickup) last Friday, outside his Centurion home. And he knows the Lord gave him peace in the midst of the armed robbery.
"I pulled into the yard and got out of the bakkie to close the gate when I saw the hijackers," recalled Swanepoel. "A man came up to me and pulled out a 9mm pistol. Another walked up and then they said, 'Be quiet or else we'll shoot you.'"
They told him they only wanted the bakkie, so Swanepoel asked if he could first take out his 3-year-old daughter Zoe, who'd been sitting in the cab. When she was safe in his arms, Swanepoel's brother-in-law came out of the house and one of the hijackers cocked his firearm. (Photo: Beeld/News24.com)
"I told my brother-in-law he didn't have to worry, the robbers were good people and only wanted the bakkie. They then told him to stand on his knees and look down. A peacefulness came over him."
The hijackers then drove off in the bakkie, as Swanepoel told them to drive carefully and "God bless," his wallet and a Gospel CD were still in the truck.
The men were later apprehended with the stolen vehicle after attempting to rob a house.
Swanepoel told reporters, "The hand of Jesus was over us."
