"Matt Barkley gives all his credit to the Lord and at the end of the day that's his mission."
Starting quarterback at Mater Dei, Matt Barkley, may be ranked as the number one player in the country, and have a full scholarship to USC next year, but it hasn't gone to his head.
His coach is not only impressed with what he sees in Matt on the field, but also by his character off the field.
"The accolades are not going to affect Matt Barkley," says his coach. "Matt Barkley gives all his credit to the Lord and at the end of the day that's his mission."
According to a CBN report, Matt's parents noticed early on that he was gifted in physical ability, but they prayed diligently for him to be strong in his "inner man" as well.
One evidence of those prayers having been answered was when Matt asked his coach if he could start a short prayer time, after warm-ups and before each game.
"That thing has grown," his coach noted, adding, "That's where this boy is at."
