"I have found that a room full of bright young faces is one of the most rewarding opportunities an entertainer can have…"
According to a recent media release, Dan Harrell—known as Cowboy Dan—is making an impact in character education for kids with his high-energy show and new DVD.
It wasn't Dan's goal to become a children's performer, but when approached by the Tennessee Beef Industry Council on putting together an assembly program that teaches character to school kids, he gave it a try.
"Writing and performing children's music was not something I planned on doing when I came to town," says Cowboy Dan. "It kinda pursued me. Now I can't imagine doing anything else."
The media release states:
Born and raised in the ranch country of West Texas, Cowboy Dan is the real deal. After earning a degree in agriculture from Abilene Christian
University, he lived in the Austin, Texas area, soaking up the Texas music scene. He later moved to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue a career in country music while working in the agricultural industry. Along the way, his focus shifted to children's music and entertainment.
Since 1996, he has performed his high-energy show for over 450,000 kids, parents and teachers, including a tour with the Tennessee Farm Bureau's "Ag in the Classroom" program. Along the way, his CD, Yee Haw Says It All, was named "Best Children's Album" by the Nashville Music Awards, among other accolades.
Surviving loss, rebuilding life and moving ahead are all part of Cowboy Dan's inspirational story. Tragedy struck the Harrell family in 2000 when Lyndee, his wife of 14 years, died suddenly from a heart attack, leaving him a single father of three girls and a nine-day-old baby boy. "Our whole lives changed in a single instant," Cowboy Dan says, "and they will never be the same." Through the help and prayers of his church family and friends, Cowboy Dan took time off from the road to raise his kids as he tried to find blessings amid tragedy.
Now, his humor, music and message bring smiles to audiences of all ages. "I have found that a room full of bright young faces is one of the most rewarding opportunities an entertainer can have," Cowboy Dan says, "and I just want to keep doing what I love to do."
