"I have put it in God's hands and now have peace…"
Former NBA player, now award-winning Jazz musician, Wayman Tisdale recently underwent surgery to amputate part of his right leg, which he hopes will leave him "cancer free."
According to the AP/Yahoo report, his wife, Regina remarked on the operation saying, "Everything went well."
Tisdale's faith in God is evident in a message posted on his website concerning his condition, which reads:
My quest to get healthy still continues, so I plan to literally "take it out" on August 25 with an operation that will be the best way to insure that it will not return.
The procedure will remove the lower part of my right leg. This may sound drastic but I have put it in God's hands and now have peace, knowing that this is the best way to put this disease in check.
I have complete faith that with the Lord's blessings this surgery will eliminate the cancer from my body and I'll soon be back on the road doing what I do best. After recovery and rehab I plan to resume touring in the fall.
By the time January rolls around, I will be dancing on the deck onboard the "Smooth Jazz Cruise" that I host annually. There is a lot more music inside me, and once I am back on my feet, I look forward to sharing my joy with my fans, friends and fellow musicians.
I thank you in advance for your prayers and well wishes. -Wayman
The 6 foot 9 Tulsa native—who played first with Oklahoma, then in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns—was first diagnosed with bone cancer last year.
