"I believe that it is the role of a Christian educator to speak and behave consistently with God's love for each student."
(Richmond, Texas)—Public school teacher Dr. Mella Davis of Richmond, Texas, has been awarded national Christian educator of the year. Davis teaches English and French at Terry High School in Rosenberg, Texas. The CEAI press release revealed Davis was acclaimed for serving her local church and on the foreign mission field as well as in the public school classroom.
Davis said, "I believe that it is the role of a Christian educator to speak and behave consistently with God's love for each student. I do not see any student as incapable of learning but merely unwilling at times."
According to a OneNewsNow report, the group Christian Educators Association International (CEAI) played a critical role in helping Davis know how to share her faith in her surroundings. "They teach teachers and other educators how they can legally bring their faith and make it a part of the curriculum," said Davis, "and that we don't have to, quote-unquote, 'hide our light under a bushel.'"
Davis reportedly allows students to have lunch in her classroom so they can join together in prayer. She offers this advice for other Christian teachers:
"Make sure that we provide an example of excellence in the work that we do—and as we do that, that will get the attention that will bring God the glory."
