"I did not want to damage their reputations. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of a good name."
(Daytona Beach, Fla.)—Billionaire S. Truett Cathy, the 87-year- old CEO of Chick-fil-A, has extended mercy to three preteen girls who broke into his summer home, vandalizing it and stealing $30,000 worth of his belongings. (Photo: truettcathy.com)
According to a report in the Denver Post, the CEO couldn't "bear to send the girls through the court system," and so "instead of prosecuting and demanding restitution, [he] is making them write 'I will not vandalize other people's property' 1,000 times. He's also prohibiting them from watching TV and playing video games, and he's making them read for a few hours a day."
"I did not want to damage their reputations," said Cathy. "The older I get, the more I realize the importance of a good name," referring to Proverbs 22:1- "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches."
Cathy, who has reportedly taught Sunday school for five decades and considers himself a "grandpa" to over a hundred children through his foster care program, was quoted as saying he hopes he "got a message" to the vandals.
