"I'm always, by the grace of God, cognizant of who He is and who I am in Him."
(Washington, D.C.)?In a Washington Post article entitled Praying Fields, reporter Kathy Orton recently interviewed former Washington Redskins cornerback Darrell Green. The following are excerpts from that interview. To read it in its entirety, follow the link provided.
How big of a role does your faith play in your daily life?
I hope I'm being led every second, every moment of my life... God's word, His spirit is very, very important and prevalent in my life on a minute-by-minute basis. . . I don't ever want to be away from God. I don't ever want to be outside of His leadership and influence in my life.
Has there been a time when your faith has been tested?
...As one who tries to be filled with God's spirit and led by His spirit everyday, as my juices are flowing now, everyday you're tested...Where a situation happens like that where there are people who are maliciously and in an unfounded way coming at you in front of a group or even in the games when guys do something or say something, I've got to always, as we said earlier in this conversation, I'm always, by the grace of God, cognizant of who He is and who I am in Him. The first thing my kids hear anytime they walk out the door is represent; represent God, represent the Church; represent the Green family; represent yourself. My kids will all tell you that. They've all heard that all their lives. I always want to be filled with God's spirit. That doesn't mean I'm always perfect at it.
