The man who built the statue did it as a token of gratitude to the Lord.
(Manado, Indonesia)—One of Asia's tallest statues of Jesus Christ has been erected in Indonesia on the private property of a real estate developer named Ciputra. Although Indonesia is primarily a Muslim nation, the town of Manado is predominately Christian. (Photo: AFP)
A report in The Daily Mail also noted that the 76-year-old Ciputra, raised in poverty and now reportedly one of Indonesia's wealthiest men, built the statue as a token of gratitude for his success.
Standing 30 meters tall, the Indonesian statue of Jesus is a bit smaller than one in Vietnam, and is also smaller than the Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking Rio de Janeiro, which is the world's tallest statue of Jesus and was voted one of the Seven Wonders of the World last year in a global online poll.
