The geomagnetic storm over the North Pole produced power equal to the energy released by a 5.5 earthquake.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Beginning with its first verse: "The heavens declare the glory of God…" Psalm 19 focuses on the amazing magnitude of God-the-Creator's power which is exhibited in the facts and attributes of Earth and the heavenly bodies that surround it. I believe each time scientists reveal new discoveries in nature and astronomy, our omnipotent God is glorified all the more. What follows is yet another remarkable finding by NASA scientists, about the source of a stunning phenomenon that has always intrigued me—the Northern Lights. God's handiwork is not only powerful, but beautiful as well. –Aimee Herd, BCN.
(San Francisco, Ca.)—New data from NASA's Themis mission has scientists believing they have discovered the energy source of the spectacular color displays seen in the northern lights. (Photo: AP)
According to a report published by Yahoo News, the energy "comes from a stream of charged particles from the sun flowing like a current through twisted bundles of magnetic fields connecting Earth's upper atmosphere to the sun."
The geomagnetic storm powering the auroras reportedly raced 400 miles in a minute across the sky...equal to the energy released by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake.
