EDITOR'S NOTE: While the following story is good news, in the fact that the amount of abortions in the nation is coming down, it is still completely sobering to realize that behind that decreasing number are precious little lives that are still being abruptly ended before their first breath. I have no doubt though, that less women are having abortions due to prayer, and factors such as the ultrasound?enabling pregnant women to actually see their babies?and, the many hardworking, caring people who work in Pregnancy Centers around the country, helping to bring hope to one who feels alone in her situation. ?Aimee Herd, BCN.
(Atlanta, GA)?According to the latest survey by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), abortions performed in the U.S. have hit their lowest mark since the Roe V. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized the ending of an unborn baby's life.
The research stated that "in 2004, the health agency counted 839,226 abortions, a 1.1 percent decrease from the 848,136 abortions reported in 2003." That number is apparently the lowest since 1974, the first year of legalized abortions in America.
While the decrease is good, it is nonetheless a startling fact that in that first year alone, the total amount of reported legal abortions was 763,476.
