"We have not had any strong [earthquakes] since 1033, which means another one is long due."

Two major fault lines under gird Israel: the Dead Sea Fault and the "mysterious" Carmel Fault. A recent report in The Jerusalem Post highlights the fact that Israel has not suffered a major earthquake since the year 1033, almost a thousand years ago.
"If we examine the records of the Kinneret and the Dead Sea over the last two millennia, there were relatively many strong earthquakes during the first 1,000 years and few during the next 1,000," said Dr. Shmuel Marco of Tel Aviv University, whose mission is to piece together the historical timeline of earthquakes in Israel.
Marco believes the Bible offers clues, noting that prophets are often said to have become active a certain number of years "after the earthquake."
"We have not had any strong ones since 1033, which means another one is long due," concludes Marco.
