Officials are making an effort, says Ye Xiaowen, director-general of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, to "make sure" that religious needs are met at the games.
The Olympic games may have provided the catalyst for a positive change, but that's not where it stops. Apparently, the Communist Party—according to Ye—is set to encourage religion, instead of crushing it, and that religion could play a positive role "in promoting economic and social development" in the future.
