"This referendum allows the people?especially those concerned about the well-being of California's children?to make this crucial policy decision for themselves."
(Sacramento, CA)?To prevent acceptance of "alternative lifestyles" from being forced on California's schoolchildren, a pro-family group has filed a referendum with the state Attorney General's office to stop a pro-homosexual bill signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from being implemented.
The referendum was filed late last week by Capitol Resource Family Impact (CRFI), a 501(c)(4) organization affiliated with longtime PJI ally Capitol Resource Institute, in response to Gov. Schwarzenegger's signing of SB 777. The controversial bill, now slated to go into effect Jan. 1, 2008, prohibits instruction or school-sponsored activities that promote a "discriminatory bias" against "gender" (including transgender behavior) and "sexual orientation." CRFI has approximately 90 days to gather 500,000 signatures to turn the referendum into a valid ballot measure for California voters to decide.
Already...activists are seeking to stop schools from promoting traditional marriage or even referring to parents as "mother" and "father." SB 777 will take that agenda to the next level. CRFI policy analysts and PJI attorneys believe it may be interpreted to require gender-neutral bathrooms and locker rooms in schools (as is already happening in the Los Angeles Unified School District). The bill also opens the door for activists to challenge such institutions as a homecoming "king" and "queen," or biology lessons which refer to "male" and "female."
"This referendum allows the people?especially those concerned about the well-being of California's children?to make this crucial policy decision for themselves," Meredith Turney, legislative liaison for CRFI, said in a statement. "It is simply unconscionable to force young children to deal with such confusing matters as transgender, bisexual and homosexual lifestyles in their classrooms."
PJI President Brad Dacus commented, "We salute CRFI for being willing to speak out on behalf of the people of California and our young people who will be affected by this propaganda. We urge our friends to assist CRFI in gathering signatures for this referendum." To find out how you can get involved, follow the link provided.
