"It is clear that increasing public awareness about the dangers of secondhand smoke is the right thing to do."
(California)—Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wednesday, signed into law a bill to protect children under the age of 18 from second-hand smoke in cars. California is now the 3rd state to take action (Arkansas and Louisiana) limiting smoking in vehicles when minors are present.
According to the AP story, smoking in cars can be 10 times as much of a hazard than smoking in the home, says the Harvard School of Public Health report.
California state Sen. Jenny Oropeza, said, "Protecting the health of our children is among government's highest responsibilities. It is clear that increasing public awareness about the dangers of secondhand smoke is the right thing to do."
The law, which carries up to a $100 fine, will reportedly take effect January 1st.
