Tired of headlines about school fighting and shootings, these young people decided to make some news that highlights "peace."
(Vancouver, WA)—Ever since the Columbine tragedy, it seems that there have been increasing incidents of violence reported in schools, or perhaps our awareness of it has just become more acute.
Either way, about 100 Vancouver, Washington teens, Wednesday night, decided to make some headlines of their own—not regarding violence, but headlines of peace. (Photo: FOX 12-KPTV.com)
Sparked by several campus fights that occurred last week, which may have been the product of racial tensions and gang activity in the area, the student body at Fort Vancouver High was moved to make a stand against hostility in their school.
Wednesday night, young people—100 strong—stood together, holding candles and singing, while a few students delivered spontaneous anti-violence messages. Hopefully, this will be picked up by other schools, and these peaceful rallies can become the trend.
