"Down syndrome has never defined who Lily is. Lily is first and foremost Lily. She's a beautiful 4-year-old girl."
(Virginia)? It can come as very frightening news to a pregnant couple, a prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome. However, parents of these children who carry an extra chromosome, describe their son or daughter as a true blessing.
In fact, parents of Downs kids would like to make this news known to many more expectant couples, as well as doctors. The reason is a recent increase in screening for Down Syndrome, which would now be offered to all pregnant women. Unfortunately, with that screening comes an offer to legally abort their baby in the case of a positive result.
Cathy, a mother in the CBN News report, stated she had gotten a call from her doctor who told her, "Legally, you have 24 weeks to terminate the pregnancy, and you should do it sooner rather than later, because it will be more difficult on you if you wait." Cathy admitted the news made her contemplate the situation, but she and her husband soon rejected the arguments against letting their child live.
Another mother says, of her daughter, "Down syndrome has never defined who Lily is. Lily is first and foremost Lily. She's a beautiful 4-year-old girl."
