Signs on every door in surgical ward read: "Sacred Place"
(Nashville)—Anyone who has been in the hospital for any length of time realizes the importance of chaplains. They offer a listening ear, words of encouragement and hope, a shoulder-to-shoulder presence, and most of all, prayer. ( Photo: Shauna Bittle / The Tennessean)
Chaplain Richard Weller of Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, is one such chaplain. And despite the emotional costs, he loves his job.
Weller says he sees results from his labor. On the eighth surgical floor in the hospital he, Weller, is chaplain, there is reportedly a sign on every door that reads "Sacred Place," and a card in each room which says, "Those who are caring for you are dedicated to your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. During your stay we are praying for you."
