Other respondents in poll struggled with whether they had really forgiven someone because they were unable to forget the offense.
ChristiaNet.com conducted a recent poll in which they asked participants if they were holding unforgiveness in their lives. As reported in Christian Newswire, out of 1,200 believers, 52% said they do not. The main attitude of this group was encapsulated in the belief that it is better to receive God's peace and joy than to live in bitterness and pain.
On the other hand, twenty-six percent felt they were holding unforgiveness toward someone. Notes the report: "Many respondents indicated that they had a difficult time forgiving themselves whereas most held unforgiveness toward others such as friends, family members and spouses. The top reasons for holding a grudge are physical or verbal abuse, betrayal and divorce. Many realized it's not Christ-like and have attempted to resolve it through prayer or counseling. One Christian shared, 'I continually pray to God to help me forgive those that hurt me.'"
The final group (22%) was confused about forgiveness, struggling with the issue of forgetting offenses which caused them to question whether they had truly forgiven someone.
