"They were saying, 'It's a great shot,' and then I heard it hit the pin."
(Lehighton, Pa. )—According to its 1999 estimation, Golf Digest puts the odds of an amateur golfer getting a hole-in-one at: 1 in 12,750. On Sunday, 53-year-old Sheila Drummond beat those odds and more, when she aced the 144-yard, par 3 fourth hole at Pennsylvania's Mahoning Valley Country Club—Sheila is totally blind.
The AP report states that her shot "cleared a water hazard, flew between traps and landed on the green, where it hit the flagstick before dropping into the hole."
Sheila lost her sight 26 years ago from diabetes, but didn't let that slow her down. She's been golfing for 15 years, and was the first female member of the United States Blind Golfers Association (USBGA).
Sheila, who plays with Keith, her husband and coach, remarked about Sunday's extraordinary drive, "They were saying, 'It's a great shot,' and then I heard it hit the pin."
