"[My parents are] my foundation...."
In a recent poll conducted by MTV and the Associated Press (AP), 1,280 people between ages 13 and 24 were asked over 100 questions pertaining to "the nature of happiness among America's youth."
While parents may envision answers that might worry them, it turns out they might be pleasantly surprised instead. The top answer given by the young participants as the main thing that makes them happy was, spending time with family.
The second most popular response was spending time with friends, and being with a "significant other" ranked third.
The AP report noted other results that might make parents smile; almost three-quarters of the youth surveyed said their "relationship with their parents makes them happy."
And, when naming their heroes, about half of respondents named one or both of their parents, with "Mom" in front by a hair.
When asked about her parents, 17-year-old Kristiana St. John, replied, "They're my foundation. My mom tells me that even if I do something stupid, she's still going to love me no matter what. Just knowing that makes me feel very happy and blessed."
