"Our faith has been passed down from generation to generation."
(Yunnan Province, China)?Back in the 1900s, James O. Fraser had graduated from Cambridge and was a concert pianist. However, God was calling him for a greater work among a people group in China's Yunnan Province.
At 22, James became a missionary to the Lisu people, who?like the populations surrounding them?worshipped idols, or were Buddhists. After ten long years with no results, and no breakthrough for the Gospel, the discouraged and despairing English missionary wrote a letter to his mother.
James' mother reportedly took that letter to her women's Bible study group and they prayed over it. Within a month, James led his first Lisu native to the Lord, and then the church began to grow exponentially. Today, out of the 480,000 Lisu who exist, an estimated 200,000 are Christians.
One Lisu leader explained, "Our faith has been passed down from generation to generation."
The Lisu people are very inclined to music and gifted that way. Now, when entering the a Lisu village, you are greeted with voices raised in the song of the Lord?even the hymns taught to them years ago by James Fraser.
"The songs were taught to us by our elders. We have heard these songs since we were very little," says the Lisu leader.
