(Beijing, China)—According to a report by CBN News, one of China's best-selling books is the Bible. There have been 43 million Bibles printed legally in China, since 1987, and today, some 3 million are reportedly printed and distributed annually.
Since, next year China will be host to the Olympics, Chinese Christian leaders are looking forward to opportunities in ministering to the wide range of visitors who will come for the games. Some are hoping to print a special Olympic edition of the Bible to hand out.
One of the leaders of China's officially sanctioned Catholic organization, Lui Bainian, would like to see these Bibles placed in Beijing hotels during the Olympics. "I want our visitors to know that we have religious freedom here," said Bainian, "and this is a small step to meet their religious needs during the Olympic[s]."
The CBN News report stated that China is currently experiencing "unprecedented religious fervor. When athletes and visitors arrive in Beijing next year for the Olympic Games, they will find a city and a nation in the middle of what some are calling a spiritual awakening."
