"I grabbed [the CB radio] like that...I said, 'Can you help me?'"
(St. Helens, Oregon)—Nine-year-old, Matthew Lovo, is being called a hero this week, as he quite possibly saved his father's life, when he passed-out behind the wheel of his lumber-loaded tractor trailer.
Matthew saw his father suddenly slump, unconscious, in his seat while driving in St. Helens, after just loading the semi full of lumber. Matthew quickly jumped behind the wheel and began to steer, while reaching for the CB radio.
"I grabbed [the CB radio]," explained Matthew to a reporter. "I said, 'Can you help me? Help!'"
Help did come, as a trucker on the other end told the boy to turn off the ignition key. As Matthew guided the slowing semi to the side of the road, a man—who had realized what was happening—jumped in and put the truck in park.
"There's no words to describe how proud I am of him," said Matthew's father, Matt Senior. "What an honest hero he is in every sense of the word," said Matt.
According to the KIRO TV report, doctors don't know why Matt passed-out, but he says he won't be driving again until he finds out.
