"Particularly, we sincerely request the governments of both Afghanistan and the U.S. to lead the negotiations with the Taliban for the sake of the safe return of the hostages."
(Republic of Korea)—According to a report by the Christian Post, an appeal has gone out, by the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK), for urgent prayer on behalf of the remaining Korean hostages taken by the Taliban in Afghanistan. (Photo: Christian Post)
"...We urgently call on the entire ecumenical community around the world to pray to God that the killings of innocent people may stop, and that these hostages may safely return to their families," said PROK general secretary, Yoon Kil-soo, in a letter.
The hostages, mostly women, have been held captive for over two weeks, since they were taken at gunpoint while headed to do volunteer work at a hospital. Earlier, two male Koreans were shot and killed by the terrorists. The missionary group is part of the Presbyterian Saemmul Community Church in Bundang, just south of Seoul.
According to reports, many of the hostages are ill, and extremely tired from being moved around constantly.
