(New York, NY)—In an effort to counteract the harmful images of late, from several young female Hollywood stars, Danica McKellar—former co-star of TV's The Wonder Years, is telling teen girls that "being smart is cool."
The new book, Math Doesn't Suck, penned by McKellar, who played the role of Winnie in the popular television series, is aimed at encouraging girls to pursue Math as one of the ways they can break the "bimbo" stereotype.
"When girls see the antics of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, they think that being fun and glamorous also means being dumb and irresponsible. But I want to show them that being smart is cool," McKellar told reporters at Newsweek.
"Being good at math is cool," she added. "And not only that, it can help them get what they want out of life."
