The Bible Bowl team has quickly turned into local celebrities. "It is amazing to sit in the kids' presence...their knowledge of Scripture far surpasses many adults' knowledge."
(Tollesboro, Kentucky)—Ten-year-olds Alivia Bierley and Colton Thayer of Tollesboro, Kentucky, worked four long years to become the champions of the National Bible Bowl Championship that was held in Kansas City, Mo., on July 5. The event was watched by upwards of 500 people.
Alivia's mother and coach, Lareina Bierley, is quoted as saying she believes the Bible Bowl has benefits for eternity and that her main goal was not to win the competition, but rather teach the children the Bible.
Indeed, the report notes that both Alivia and Colton are already using their Bible knowledge in everyday life. Alivia says 1 Samuel 16:7 has helped her to not succumb to peer pressure, and Colton said he uses Scriptures to influence others in a positive manner.
It is amazing to sit in the kids' presence, notes reporter Carrie Carlson, because their knowledge of Scripture far surpasses many adults' knowledge.
Although the team members are still elated and somewhat in shock over their win, as reported in The Ledger Independent, the Bible Bowl team has quickly turned into local celebrities.
